“In Buena Vista Social Club, the music itself is the story,” writes Buffalo Theatre Guide, “It is the heart, the soul and the driving force of the entire work, and the score is not simply vital to the production – it is its very reason for being.” The Grammy Award® -winning cast recording of the album is the foundation of the story featuring the soul-stirring music of Cuba’s golden age.
The story follows legendary singer Omara Portuondo years since she last entered a recording studio. Once known as the “Queen of Feeling,” her voice was celebrated throughout Cuba – until she vanished from the spotlight. But when an ambitious young record producer brings her a rare opportunity, the elusive diva must finally reckon with her past.
“The highlight of the show is the music. The cast performs with the entire band on stage, often switching roles and witnessing the events unfold,” writes Triangle Review, “The music is stellar, and the presence of the band makes the experience truly special.”
